Celebrate the arrival of the 1931 Aluminaire House to Palm Springs. Please join us for a very exclusive afternoon reception fundraiser at the iconic Siva House (Hugh M. Kaptur AIA, 1959). Located high above Palm Springs on Palisades Drive and very near Albert Freys own Frey House II, the stunning residence has been graciously offered by the current owners to raise funds.
The 1931 Aluminaire House will be transported to Palm Springs in late January 2017. Currently dismantled, it is stored in its own container, ready to be reassembled once the downtown event space across from the Palm Springs Art Museum is completed. (Date TBA).
Its one step closer to realizing the dream of having Albert Freys 1931 Aluminaire House permanently displayed in Palm Springs. Aluminaire was designated in 2016 by Architectural Record as one of 125 (#30, right after Corbusiers 1931 Villa Savoye) most important works of architecture worldwide in the 125 years since the magazines founding in 1891.
The reception will honor Professor Michael Schwarting and Associate Professor Frances Campani, a couple, both architects, who now for 29 years, have worked tirelessly to save Aluminaire from destruction and oblivion; investing their personal time and resources through a number of challenges over years to document and protect Aluminaire, with the goal of finding a permanent home for it. Fortunately its Palm Springs!
Join them and members of the Palm Springs Aluminaire committee at this afternoon reception of scrumptious hors doeurves, wine, beverages, conversation and the latest updates. Your opportunity to be an important participant in the quest to have Palm Springs become the new home for Aluminaire.
