Explore the sacred side of midcentury architecture in the Palm Springs area on this self-guided tour of at least 7 holy houses from the 50s, 60s and early 70s. See how iconic architects Frey, Cody, Whittemore and others translated the needs of a variety of diverse and growing congregations into both subtle and dramatic sacred spaces. You may stop, explore and photograph the exteriors of all churches on the tour and at least 4 of the churches will be open for tour-goers to go inside and explore their history and architecture. From the sweeping curves and corners of St. Theresa Catholic Church to the intricate patterns of concrete block and stained glass at the original Desert Chapel, you will see how architects helped inspire the sacred spaces where the likes of Eisenhower, Sinatra, and even Elvis Presley worshiped.
A tour map and information will be provided at check-in. Ticket sales proceeds will be donated to the participating churches.
The tour will be open from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. All guests must check-in at First Baptist Church at their scheduled time shown on their ticket. Check-in will be open from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. The last check-in time is 12 p.m.
